💕Where Art & Healing Meet💕

This is my dear friend Amy, standing in front of You Are the Sunshine of My Life.

I painted this piece for the large wall at Bryn Mawr Hospital during a season when Amy was on her own health journey, spending much of the year in and out of appointments. At the same time, I was quietly working through self-doubt and a difficult situation of my own.

When I began this painting, the song immediately played in my head and Amy came to mind—her presence, her light, and her heartfelt friendship.

Creating it lifted me out of my own fog and shifted my perspective. I never told her about the painting; I wanted her first encounter with it to be a surprise, waiting for her in the main entrance.

The first time Amy saw it, she had walked into the hospital feeling anxious. Then she looked up at the wall and felt her heart slow down and the tension leave her body. When she read the story, she knew—it was about us. She called me in tears, and we cried together.

We both needed that painting.

It healed parts of us.

Sometimes a painting knows what we need before we do.

🚙 Life Is A Highway

How is it already 2026?

I always remind myself to not over schedule in December and somehow, between parties, movie nights, shopping, wrapping, and working, it’s over.

I kicked off the new year with a quick trip to explore Chicago with my daughter, as she will be moving after graduation (which, I’m still processing!).

She diligently researched and made notes of the neighborhoods to visit and places to explore.

I however, had no agenda.

Just a passenger in her car, enjoying the ride.

“Life is a highway
I wanna to ride it all
night long”

I liked it.

Maybe this is the year I ease up and savor the journey as it comes.

I have two wonderful friends from high school.

I have known them since I was 14.

We try and get together for dinner every couple of months.

Just being with them for a few hours feels like coming home.

It’s comfortable and loving.

I’m so lucky to have them in my life.

Lately my husband’s work trips seem to be back-to-back with little time in-between at home.

He’s very organized with his packing and usually has it finished the night before and waiting at the door (so not me!).

It’s the perfect time for me to sneak in a little card between his clothes.

And when I go to bed there’s usually a note under my pillow from him.

I remember running to the drug store to drop off the film.

They had countless albums and bins of pictures.

I never liked to get my picture taken as a kid, but I’m so glad we have so many memories of the past.

My freshman year in college I picked a school 400 miles from home.

It never occurred to me how I would get back on holiday breaks, until my dad broke the news to me that I needed to figure out how to take the Greyhound bus home.

It was 11 hours long and made 3 stops.

I was never so happy to see the signs on the turnpike that I recognized.

As I got closer, I didn’t realize how homesick I was.

There’s nothing like being home.

Her husband was wheelchair bound, and they couldn’t drive up the driveway because it had just snowed.

She wanted to see if one of my brothers was home to help push him up to the house.

I said I’d be happy to help.

The love I have for my children is unconditional.

When they were little, it was my job to keep them safe and protected.

Now that they are adults my role has changed.

It’s different and has taken me a while to understand the new cadence.

They don’t need me on a daily basis, but my mother’s heart is always open sending them love, because when I close my eyes, they are still two little girls holding my hands.

When I have a deadline (and I’ve procrastinated long enough) I go into overdrive and I feel like I can get a week’s worth of things finished in a day.

Maybe it’s the adrenaline?

When I was a kid we had a stack of Christmas albums on the stereo turn table.

All the classics from the 60’s and 70’s.

The cardboard album covers were well worn, and the corners frayed a bit.

I remember my dad showing me the art of placing the needle on the album with the gentlest touch.

The cracks and crinkles played before the music would start.

I still get chills thinking about it.

But the record that go played the most was Robert Goulet.

One of us would run down to the family room to play it from the beginning, as we waited upstairs in the living room to start opening up the gifts.

It’s still one of my favorite albums.

My parents loved a road trip.

My dad drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and mom was in charge of the radio.

When they would get in the car mom would turn up this song and roll down the window and wave goodbye.

The two of them would laugh and sing:

When my girls were little, they couldn’t wait to go outside when it snowed.

It took forever to wrangle them into their snow suits and boots, but when they got out there, they stayed for hours building snowmen.

We had a kit with a hat, wooden carrot nose, buttons and a scarf.

Come on, let’s go
and play”

The funny thing is, we still build them now - you’re never too old.

I met my husband at basketball camp.

I would see him occasionally in and out of the office. In the evenings I would go running on dinner breaks and one day he asked me if he could join.

I said sure and halfway thru the run, I saw a patch of tiger lily’s. We commented on how beautiful they were, and he picked one and gave it to me. I knew in that moment that something was different.

“Ooh baby, here I am

So many hummingbirds were here this summer.

And most of the time they were trying to outfly the other to get to the food first.

Didn’t realize they could be so territorial. But when they are in harmony zooming through the air, it’s breathtaking and peaceful.

🎄Holiday Road - Day 1

There are shoes piled by my back door and random bags on tables and counters and I couldn’t be happier because my babies are home.

We have a tradition, and it came from my mother- in- law. She didn’t play Christmas music in the house until Thanksgiving morning. She would load up the turn table with her favorite albums and blast the stereo and wake up the house!

We do the same thing.

My kids avoid Christmas music like the plague before Thanksgiving because they wait to be jolted out of bed with the classics we grew up with 🎶

I started dating my husband at the beginning of sophomore year in college.

We knew each other’s class schedules by heart, and I could time exactly when he would be walking across campus.

I looked at my watch a lot that semester!

Those butterflies in my stomach had me on high alert those days.

I’ve never been good at small talk.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good conversation; the kind that you jump into with both feet.

My dear friend says to me all the time: “Kimi, we always end up nose to nose deep in conversation.”

And I realized something as I was painting this piece.

These are the paintings I love the most.

Aside from them feeling warm and cozy, it’s the deep connection I feel when engaged in heartfelt conversation.

That moment when I feel seen and loved.

✨Full Circle Moment✨

I’m an over thinker.

And sometimes I can’t make a decision.

But, when I was asked to hang my art in the halls of Bryn Mawr Hospital, it was an immediate YES!

I grew up right down the street.

As a kid we were “frequent flyers” in the ER with x-rays and stitches.

As I got older, I spent time waiting while loved ones were in surgery.

Hospitals are incredible places filled with health care workers helping people on their healing journeys❤️‍🩹

Inside these giant buildings, you never know what someone is going through.

Personally, I feel like it would have been such a pleasant distraction to walk the halls and get lost in the art, even if just for a moment.

Im hanging the show tomorrow afternoon and it will be up until the end of the year!

Hospitals never close, so you can come and walk the halls and enjoy the art work,
in the Bodine Lobby (across from the cafeteria) and the Buck Atrium (the surgical waiting area for family and friends), located off of the Warden Lobby.

All of the paintings will be for sale and you can purchase through my website.
Don’t forget, 20% of all sales are donated back to Bryn Mawr Hospital via the Women’s Board.

When we would walk into the studio, she would turn on the lights and sort the cash register. The first thing I would do is push a chair to the shelf, get on my tippy toes, and turn on the radio.

I couldn’t start the day without music.

In fact, I still can’t start the day without music.

It’s the golden thread of my days, my life, and my memories.

The stage was set then. I created, while absorbing the songs into my soul.

It’s the deepest place I can access my memories.

When I realized that this is how I create art now – it felt electric!

I create painted diaries.
