The song, “Philadelphia Freedom" by Elton John, CONSTANTLY played in my head the week the Eagles won the Super Bowl!
Not only did we watch the game on the edge of our seats with pride and excitement, we also had a birds-eye view atop the parade route a few days later :)
My brother scored us an INCREDIBLE spot way up high at a hotel in Logan Square, overlooking the sea of love. I pulled the kids out of school for this once in a lifetime event.
Philadelphia is where my great grandparent’s planted their roots.
“Cause I live and breathe this Philadelphia freedom…”
My great grandparents immigrated from Ireland, met in Philadelphia, got married in 1899, and had six children. My grandfather, the fourth of the six, became an incredible football player. Awarded All-Catholic and All- Scholastic at Roman Catholic high school, and went on to earn football scholarships to both Villanova and St. Josephs College.
Football is in our blood.
Sports at the core of our beginning.
My childhood is filled with the best memories of going to Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers games, and supporting my brothers’ incredible athletic careers on and off the field.
Electricity, Unity, & JOY pulsated though out Philadelphia on parade day. It was a living, breathing energy that connected all of us in a way that I’ve never experience before.
I thought a lot about my grandfather that week. His early days of playing football, his career as a Philadelphia police officer, and father of 7 children.
It’s an honor to know your family history. We stand on the shoulders of those that came before us. Grandpop would have been so proud to witness such Brotherly Love.
“Philadelphia freedom I LOOOOOOVE you - Yes I do!”
With Peace & Love,
Kim xo
